Dr. Weidong Chen

Associate Professor, Department of Computer Science & Engineering


Dr. Chen received the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Nanjing University in China in 1983, the Master of Science in Computer Science from the State Unviersity of New York at Stony Brook in 1987 and the Doctor of Philosophy in Computer Science from the State Unviersity of New York at Stony Brook in 1990. He joined the faculty at Southern Methodist University in 1990 where he is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

Research

Dr. Chen specializes in the foundation, implementation and applications of knowledge based systems and more recently, investigates the technology and applications in mobile computing. The research in knowledge based systems has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation (IRI-9212074, IRI-9212074, and IRI-9314897). The goal is to provide flexible query and inference capabilities by integrating logic programming, deductive databases, active databases and nonmonotonic reasoning. The research in mobile computing has been supported in part by the National Science Foundation (NCR-9628126) and by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (1996--1997 and 1998--1999). Teaching

Dr. Chen has taught CSE 1341 -- Principles of Computer Science, CSE 3342 -- Programming Languages, CSE 5341 -- Compiler Construction, CSE 5342 -- Formal Languages and Automata, CSE 5348 -- Internetworking Protocols and Programming, and CSE 6325 -- Logic Programming.
