Work Experience

  • Control Systems Engineer, 2001 to present at Zyvex Inc. Richardson, Texas. Design electronic systems for control of micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS).
  • Embedded Design Engineer, 1995 to 2001 at AMX, Inc. Richardson, Texas. Designed hardware, wrote firmware and developed test systems for a wide variety of products. Projects included 8, 16 and 32 bit microprocessors and digital, analog and mixed signal circuits. Was the first to clearly documenting the company’s proprietary bus communication protocol.
  • Design Engineer, 1994-1995 at Electrospace Systems, Inc. Richardson, Texas. Hardware designer on a team that implemented a transportable telecommunications switch. Designed a VME bus board containing an FPGA and four digital signal processors which implemented a CELP voice compression/ decompression algorithm.
  • Design Engineer, 1993-1994 at Accu-Pak, Inc. Carrollton, Texas. Supervised the "Pak-Troll" food packaging machine controller project. Designed automated packaging machine controller interface.
  • Engineer, 1992-1993 at Personal Radio Communication Systems (PERCS), Inc. Richardson, Texas. Worked on "Smart Cell" microcell cellular telecommunications project. Worked on microprocessor based telecommunications boards including T1, CODEC, and Base Station Controller. Wrote drivers in C and assembly language. Designed and implemented Microsoft Access databases.
  • Medical Instrumentation Engineer, 1990-1991 at Florida International University Department of Electrical Engineering. For master’s thesis project developed personal-computer-based system to quantify human spasticity nerve disorder. Created a custom arm exoskeletal frame with force and position sensors. Wrote data acquisition program which used a PC expansion card to retrieve information from the frame and display it.
  • Instructor, 1990-1991 at Florida International University Department of Electrical Engineering. Taught third year course (not the lab) in digital electronics.
  • Service Technician, 1986-1988 at Advanced Security, Inc. Miami, Florida. Performed troubleshooting and repair of residential and commercial electronic security systems.
  • Laboratory Research Assistant, 1985 at The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. Worked in neuroendocrinology lab researching the existence of nicotine receptors in brain cell cytoplasm.

Achievements

  • Designer of IRXP2 which can be found at www.jdstechnologies.com.
  • Certified Mediator in the State of Texas (a result of classes in my spare time in SMU’s graduate certification program).
  • Previous to working in the home automation industry, designed and built a custom whole-house control and automation system. Used a PC as master controller and designed custom PC expansion card and wrote software.
  • Supervisor and designer on team which won second place in IEEE's SoutheastCon competition of automated miniature racing car.
  • Won Florida International University's IEEE Achievement Award in Digital Electronics.

Education

  • Master of Science in Electrical Engineering, Florida International University - The Florida State University at Miami, December 1991
  • Bachelor of Arts – Biology, with Honors The University of Texas, May 1985
