She Networks She Wins
RSVP now to attend the 2008 event to be held Thursday, February 21, 2008 from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the J. Lindsay Embrey Building.
What is She Networks She Wins?
She Networks She Wins brings together SMU’s women engineering students,
prospective SMU women engineering students, and corporate women in leadership
positions across technology sectors. This elegant evening is an opportunity
for female professionals to share their wisdom, experience and advice as role
models in business, including their first-hand knowledge of how networking has
helped them.
History
She Networks She Wins is an annual event that began in February of 2004 with
53 students and 55 professional women with engineering backgrounds in attendance.
The event was held in Meadows Museum. Raytheon and Texas Instruments generously
sponsored this event. In 2005, the event again drew over 100 female engineering
students and professionals. Generous support was provided by Raytheon, Computer
Associates, and Texas Instruments.
Who Should Attend
Female SMU Engineering Undergraduate and Graduate Students, female SMU Engineering
alumni, SMU Engineering female faculty and staff, all female industry professionals
who either have an engineering background or are currently working an in engineering
capacity are welcome and strongly encouraged to attend.
A Special Note to Industry Professionals
Networking opens new doors, bringing with it the opportunity for new connections,
broader knowledge and greater skills. It enhances us both professionally and
personally. More than just collecting business cards, however, effective networking
is an art. By learning to network now, women engineering students can reap rewards
that go well beyond a good education.
What You Can Do
Encourage young women to stay the course; engineering is right for them. Assist
them as they build a community of networking contacts and provide advice when
needed. Introduce them to role models across industry functions and help them
understand the diverse roles that engineers play in the corporate world. Describe
your own career path and how you arrived at where you are today. Emphasize the
significant potential of an engineering degree and the bright future it offers
women in today’s society.
