Name: Whitney Boger
Hometown: San Antonio, Texas
Major: Environmental Engineering/ Minors: Chemistry, Sociology
Class of 2006
Whitney Boger says she has been interested in the environment since
she was seven years old. "I started an environmental club in fourth
grade," she says.
Today, Whitney is combining her interest in the environment and her
aptitude for math and science by studying environmental engineering.
She says her decision to come to SMU was an easy one. "They were
the only school I looked at that offered an undergraduate degree in environmental
engineering," she says.
"I've heard so much about children in Third World countries dying
because of bad water," she says. "I'd like to work on that." Whitney
says she hopes to join the Peace Corps after graduation.
Whitney works as an office assistant for the Department of Environmental
and Civil Engineering and also is involved with several environmental
and engineering organizations on campus. She's president of the SMU Environmental
Society, secretary of the student chapter of the Texas Society of Professional
Engineers, and webmaster for Women in Science and Engineering.
She says she hopes to get an internship with the Environmental Protection
Agency next summer.
