Class of 2004
As an operations officer with the U.S. Navy in New London, Connecticut,
Lieutenant Commander Bradley Perrin is responsible for planning and implementing
the schedules of the six submarines and one support vessel assigned to
Submarine Squadron Two.He also assists with the training and preparation
of the submarine's officers and crew for major inspections and deployments.
Brad has already earned an MBA in addition to his undergraduate degree
in mechanical engineering, but he is working on a master's degree in
systems engineering from SMU to help further his skills in problem-solving
and decision making. He hopes to combine his education with his experience
in the Navy to pursue a career in the civilian sector.
"I want to do more than just fix a series of problems," he
says. "I'd like to help change the world for the better with new
technologies. For example, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles could revolutionize
our dependence on oil, smart car technology could revolutionize city
traffic, home automation could become a viable alternative to nursing
home care. I want to lead a group that can bring such concepts to the
market."
Once he completes his master's degree, Brad says he will look at the
possibility of
pursuing a Ph.D. in systems engineering or operations research.
