Norbert Owona was born in Yaounde, Cameroon. He received
the Diplome d' Etudes Generales Universitaires (DEUG A, math. and phys.)
from the University of Paris-Orsay, France, in 1988, while studying in
the Classes Preparatoires aux Grandes Ecoles at Lycee Marcellin Berthelot,
Saint Maur. In the spring of 1989, he passed the entrance exam to the Ecole
Europeenne des Hautes Etudes des Industries Chimiques de Strasbourg (E.H.I.C.S),Strasbourg,
France, which he attended until 1991. In the spring of 1992, he transferred
to the University of Kentucky, Lexington,
where he earned the BSEE in 1993, the MSEE in 1995, and the MSMFG (Master
of Science in Manufacturing Systems Engineering) in 1997 while pusuing
PhD studies in EE..
He was with the Center for Robotics and Manufacturing Systems (CRMS),
University of Kentucky, from May 1993 to December 1995 where he was successively
involved with the design of a bearing alert system for trailers, with surface
mount technology (SMT), and finally, as a graduate research assistant.
Since August 1994, he has held a research assistantship through the Parallel
Computational Electromagnetic Laboratory at the University of Kentucky.
A steering committee member of AWARE,
and a member of Eta
Kappa Nu, The Golden Key, NSBE,
ASQC, SME,
and ISHM,
Mr. Owona is currently pursuing his PhD studies in ME at Southern Methodist
