Message From The Chair

Since the birth of the transistor, Electrical Engineering has been the force driving technology and society to advance faster than ever before.  Products and services designed and optimized by Electrical Engineers are so pervasive to our everyday lives it would be hard to imagine our world without them.  As we continue this push forward, SMU Electrical Engineering students will become the innovators of tomorrow – having a vision of the future and bringing it to reality.

At SMU, we recognize that to shape the leaders of this new technological age, we must focus on  the individual.  The Department of Electrical Engineering is small by design, and therefore, can devote close attention to the development of each student -  both inside and outside the classroom.  Our faculty are distinguished and our undergraduate and graduate students are inquisitive and eager.  Together, faculty and students bring the first class facilities of the Jerry R. Junkins Electrical Engineering Building to life utilizing its fine educational and research laboratories.

The Department of Electrical Engineering has major focused research thrusts in:  Communications (including Wireless Communications), Optoelectronics, Computer Engineering, and Signal Processing. These research efforts are supported by external funding and are enhanced by interactions with the vibrant corporate base of Dallas.  Our department offers a premiere environment for learning and developing emerging technologies.

I look forward to you visiting SMU’s campus and the prospect of you joining our family.  We are ideally equipped to help you make your vision a reality.
