Each course is accompanied by an individual exercise
and a group exercise. In addition, there are
other materials provided to help you do each
exercise. Exercises are entirely optional, but
are recommended. Group exercises should ideally
be carried out by a group of 3-6 individuals
who are taking the course together. They serve
primarily to give you an opportunity to discuss
issues and approaches to solving typical problems.
If you do not have such a group, you should review
these exercises as an individual.
Individual exercises are intended to give you a
chance to practice the techniques taught in the
courses. Individual exercises may be submitted
back to the course instructor for evaluation.
Each exercise provides instructions for what must
be submitted. Be sure to follow the naming conventions
for files and the other instructions, and be sure to
send the completed exercises using the "Submit
Exercise" button on the students-only course web page.
Students completing all courses in the program and
submitting all individual exercises for evaluation
will be able to receive a certificate of completion
from SMU. To apply for a certificate, select
the "apply for a certificate" button in the
students-only web page of the last course in series 4.
