Abstract

The topics of national and international intellectual property laws, protection, and enforcement are becoming increasingly important with the onset of the current globalization and sharing of ideas spanning international borders. The protection of intellectual property, intangible assets created by the mind in the form of inventions, literary and artistic works, symbols, names, images, and designs used in commerce, are potential power tools for intellectual and economic growth. Unfortunately, many developing countries have not realized this potential. In the hopes of fostering a better understanding and realization of the important role that intellectual property laws serve in developing countries, we proposed to organize this panel. The primary objective will be to host a platform for critical examinations of various perspectives on intellectual property in developing countries, spanning from international laws, local culture, economic trends, to technology. Our panelists have expertise in the role of intellectual property laws and protection in developing countries.
