Tutorial for Uploading/Downloading Personal web pages

STEP 1:
Download and install winSCP software for uploading/downloading your files. Click here to download the software. This software is an SCP client which manages uploading/downloading files to and from your website.

STEP 2:
Log on to engineering school servers (apoc, neo, tank or others ), using the winSCP software. Enter your username and password for authentication.

Click here to see a detailed view of the login procedure.

Example: Enter apoc.engr.smu.edu in the hostname field. Log in using your Engineering username and unix password.

STEP 3:
Select remote folder: public_html

Note: you can specify remote directory under environment and save the session for later use

STEP 4:
Select files to transfer and press F5(copy). The home page for the webpage should be named as "index.html"

A setup script is provided to facilitate web site maintenance. It will double check the link, initialize the index.html if not present, and set permissions. It is called: wwwsetup.Run the wwwsetup script for initial setup or after installing new files so permissions will allow the web server to serve your files. You must be in Unix environment to run wwwsetup, from Windows, log in to a server using telnet, make sure that you are in your home directory and then type 'wwwsetup'. For more information see Frequently Asked Questions.

Your URL will be of the form: http://engr.smu.edu/~logname
Note: "logname" would be your Engineering School username.

For developing the webpages, you could use Microsoft FrontPage (click here for tutorial), Macromedia Dreamweaver (click here for tutorial) or any similar software. These software are available at Computer Corner, Hughes Triggs Student Center
