Visiting Student Certificate Program for
Technologico de Monterrey Students

The SMU School of Engineering invites undergraduate students from Tecnologico de Monterrey to spend a semester at SMU in Dallas, Texas. Participants will have an opportunity to enhance their engineering education by taking value-added engineering classes not offered at other schools plus live in the heart of an international city with a vibrant technology corridor.

Requirements

Undergraduate students who have completed at least three semesters may apply for the program if they meet the following admission requirements:

  • TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper test) and 213 (computer test)
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (83 on the Tecnologico de Monterrey scale)

Students interested in applying for the program must complete an SMU International Student Application Form and submit an essay and official transcript of courses taken at Tecnologico de Monterrey. Students may apply for the program in either fall or spring.

Courses Offered

The SMU School of Engineering offers undergraduate degrees in civil engineering, computer engineering, computer science, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, management science, and mechanical engineering. For industrial engineering students at Tecnologico de Monterrey, plenty of courses are offered within the degrees mentioned above.

Courses offered vary according to semester, but here are just some of the courses you may be able to take:

  • Design of Water and Wastewater Systems
  • Engineering Communications
  • Engineering Economy
  • Engineering Management
  • Human Factors in Design and Manufacturing
  • Information Engineering and Global Perspectives
  • Introduction to Environmental and Civil Engineering
  • Manufacturing Processes
  • Modern Manufacturing Methods and Systems
  • Operations Research
  • Principles of Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Environmental Control
  • Production Systems Engineering
  • Statistical Methods for Engineers and Applied Scientists
  • Technical Entrepreneurship
  • Total Quality Management for Manufacturing

Students from Tecnologico de Monterrey will receive a certificate upon completion of their semester at SMU.

Housing

Housing for participants in the Visiting Student Program will be available in apartments adjacent to the campus.
