How Distance Education Works

SMU Engineering graduate course lectures are recorded “live” in one of our state-of-the-art tele-studio classrooms. The live classroom recording includes the lecture, all dialog among students in the class and the professor. See a recorded lecture clip now.

High quality streamed lectures are loaded to our server within 24 hours of the on-campus course. You should download the lecture to your computer and watch it within 48 hours to keep current with course content and requirements. Graded homework is returned by email, fax or regular mail.

Course notes, lecture notes, syllabus and other documents are available on-line. You can contact professors by telephone, fax, email, or regular mail.

Our experienced, knowledgeable staff is available to consult with you, exclusively for Distance Education, about logistics, registration, course selection, degree planning and other general questions.

Exams are taken at your HR office, training center, on campus at SMU or another pre-arranged location. Professors provide specific procedures and instructions to a designated site coordinator, who distributes and proctors the exams, then returns it for grading.
