NTU / SMU Engineering Student Information

To Select Courses from SMU and continue with your NTU degree

SMU’s Spring 2008 term begins January 15, 2008, Enrollment begins mid-October 2007

As non-degree students, SMU has historically allowed NTU students to take as many SMU graduate courses as they wish. The simplified application process for students who are taking an SMU course to finish their NTU degree is as follows:

  • Complete the special NTU non-degree application, enter all information and check the SMU Schedule of Classes, write in the courses you want to take, type your name at the signature line, and fax it to Reem Safawat at NTU. Reem must approve your enrollment and forward the information to SMU Engineering. Reem’s contact information is ntuadvise@ntu.edu or 866-492-5336.
  • Once you are enrolled at SMU, you must pay tuition within 24 hours. Go to http://smu.edu/bursar/webpay.asp You may log in as a guest payer to pay your tuition by following the instructions on the site.
  • If you are taking courses via streaming, you must go to the following sites and complete the web form to avoid any delay in getting access to our secured server for the streamed course:

Admissions for NTU Students in Discontinued NTU Programs

  • NTU student is in a discontinued NTU program that awards a master’s degree
  • SMU offers an equivalent program
  • An NTU student must officially apply to SMU; the application fee of $75 will be waived
  • The student will have seven years from the date of matriculation into the SMU equivalent program to complete all SMU program degree requirements
  • The GRE requirements will be waived if two or more NTU courses have been completed and the current NTU GPA is 3.00 or higher.
  • SMU will accept all SMU courses and up to four non-SMU courses in transfer toward the SMU equivalent program; Due to the prior relationship with NTU, SMU will consider accepting more than 4 transfer courses on a case by case basis
