Learning From Leading Professors
Virtually all School of Engineering faculty have gained practical experience
as engineers, applied scientists, consultants, or administrators in government
service or private industry. Their insights provide distance education program
students with an invaluable link between the latest scientific theories and
the reality of the high-technology marketplace.
Students also have an opportunity to learn from adjunct professors who are respected professionals
in the high-technology community or government agencies. Current adjunct faculty members
in the distance education program come from industry leaders such as AT&T, Texas Instruments Inc.,
and Bell Northern Research, and government agencies such as the Environmental Protection Agency.
How the Distance Education Program Works
Lectures in the School of Engineering graduate courses are recorded live in class.
This classroom format includes not only the lecture,
but also all questions from students in the classroom as well as the professor's answers and comments.
High quality streamed lectures are loaded to our server within 24 hours of
the on-campus course. Students download and view the lecture within seven days
to stay current with course content and requirements.
The Distance Education program students benefit from seeing and hearing classroom
interactions previously recorded - questions from students and professors' answers.
Students themselves can ask their professors questions by telephone, fax, email,
or regular mail.
The Distance Education program students take all examinations at the education
office of their installations. Professors explain specific procedures and instructions
to the education office staff, who relay them to students. The staff distribute
and proctor the examinations, then forward them to the professor for grading.
