Public health impact of air pollution

Research Accomplishments and Activities

Three-year research project funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and NIOSH to design, construct, and test technology to reduce particulate (soot) emissions from diesel-engine powered machinery and vehicles.

Project funded by the U.S. EPA and the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Office of Environmental Affairs to develop a novel technique for detecting hydrocarbon contamination in soils.

Lead scientist on a project studying jet engine exhaust emissions for the U.S. Air Force Institute for Environment, Safety, and Occupational Health Risk Analysis, 1998-2001.

Research Philosophy

We have an obligation to future generations to be good stewards of our environment. By doing so, we promote our own public health, economic growth, and long-term sustainability. We need the best and brightest minds to work on solving the problems of global climate change, urban air pollution, and unsafe working environments. The solutions are made by combining established and new techniques in chemistry, biology, physics, economics, and engineering.
