International Engineering Leader Appointed First Ever Texas Instruments Distinguished Chair in Engineering Education and Director of the Caruth Institute for Engineering Education
SMU – Dallas, March 10, 2008: SMU announced today that international engineering leader, Sec. Delores M. Etter, has been appointed the first ever Texas Instruments Distinguished Chair in Engineering Education and Director of the newly named Caruth Institute for Engineering Education.
In this key leadership role, Dr. Etter will lead the School of Engineering’s nationally recognized efforts to improve and expand engineering education for K-12 plus early college age students across the country and globe. These include the Infinity Project – one of the nation’s largest and most respected high school engineering education programs (www.infinity-project.org), the Gender Parity Initiative which aims to develop programs and models to dramatically increase the numbers of girls and women in engineering and technology fields, and Visioneering – one of the largest National Engineers Week programs that allow students across the country to experience the power of creative engineering.
In addition to these roles, Dr. Etter will be a professor in the Departments of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science and Engineering and will also serve as a Senior Fellow in the Tower Center.
