Papers presenting contributions to the following areas are solicited:

Papers will be reviewed on the basis of an extended summary of sufficient detail to permit reasonable evaluation. The extended summary should not exceed the length of six pages (not including references) in double-spaced, 11-point type size. Overly lengthy extended summaries are at the risk of being returned to the authors unprocessed. All submissions must be received no later than October 3, 2000, with notification of decisions by February 1, 2001. In view of the large number of submissions expected, multiple submissions by the same author will receive especially stringent scrutiny. All accepted papers will be allotted twenty minutes for presentation, and one-page abstracts will be printed in the Proceedings. Authors are strongly encouraged to submit electronic versions of their summaries by following the submission guidelines:

Electronic Submission Procedure

The procedure is similar to the one of electronic submission to the IEEE Transactions on Information Theory with a few minor differences.

The author(s) should submit two e-mails to the program secretariat:

The first e-mail contains a cover letter and the other contains a postscript file of the extended summary. Alternatively, postscript files may be submitted via FTP (see below).

The cover letter must be submitted via e-mail (not FTP!) and should include the following information items:

• Title of the paper.
• Information about the postscript file of the extended summary indicating weather it is submitted by e-mail or FTP, including the file name (for FTP submission) or the subject line of the corresponding e-mail (for e-mail submission).
• Name, addresses, phone numbers, fax numbers, and e-mail addresses of all authors.
• The area of the paper (according to the list in the Call for Papers).

The author submitting the email that contains the cover letter will automatically be assigned as the "corresponding author."

Electronic submission of the extended summary will be carried out in one of the two following ways:

• The postcript file may be submitted via FTP (Internet File Transfer Protocol). To do so, authors should access the following FTP site:

log in as anonymous using e-mail address as password, and put the postscript file in the incoming directory. The file name should be composed of of the "isit." prefix, followed by the last name of the corresponding author, followed in turn by the ".ps" suffix (for example, isit.shannon.ps). If the same corresponding author has more than one electronic submission, the corresponding file names should be distinguished by numbers that follow the last name but precede the ".ps" suffix (for example, isit.shannon1.ps, isit.shannon2.ps, and so on).

• It may be sent by e-mail as plain, uncoded ASCII text. The postscript file should be included in the body of the e-mail. Do not send it as an attachment. The subject line of the email should be composed of the last name of the corresponding author, followed by the "ps" suffix (for example shannon.ps). If the same corresponding author has more than one electron submission, the corresponding subject lines should be distinguished by numbers that follow the last name but precede the ".ps" suffix (for example, shannon1.ps, shannon2.ps, and so on).
