The happy marriage of Information and Ergodic Theory
From its early years there has been an intimate relationship between the two theories. I will survey some of the past history of success focusing mainly on entropy and its impact on our understanding of dynamical systems. There has been some recent striking progress in our understanding of dynamical systems with large symmetry groups. I will describe some of these developments and their possible impact on our understanding and processing of the large quantities of information that are available today.
